Anywhoo! When we started solids we started with bananas and sweet potatoes, and really he didn't "eat" very much. Mostly, the tongue thrust reflex just pushed everything out and the faces he made at the new textures and flavors were pretty funny. We kept trying when we had time and he was in a good mood. Over Christmas break, when we were visiting family, he started to open his mouth when you introduced the spoon, and since, he has really wanted to eat the food.
He has had bananas, sweet potatoes, peaches, pears, apples, prunes, and butternut squash. Tonight I plan on our first attempt at something green: peas! We will see how that goes, considering it is the first non-sweet baby food he will have had. He does seem to enjoy the sweet potatoes the best! It is one of mommy's favorites too! (Maybe all the sweet potatoes I had while I was pregnant with him had something to do with it!)
It is so funny to see him interested in our food recently. I was out with Jared's mom and aunt at Macaroni Grill last week and Penny went to take a bite of her chicken parm as she was holding Caden, and he reached for it. Contrary to solid food "rules" and the opinions of some, I have given him itty bitty tastes of many non-baby food things. He loves salty stuff, and of course sweet things! Give that kid a pretzel to gnaw on and he is a happy boy! Or a taste of ice cream! I am pretty sure he will be a good eater! I will update on the outcome of the peas after tonight!
Oh and P.S.: Puke is much more hard to clean up and off of clothing when it is tinted with sweet potato! Just some FYI!
Here is a picture of Caden after having some sweet potatoes at my mom's. Yes, he did actually manage to eat some, though there may be just as much on his face!
