So I started by painting the bathroom the same color as Caden's bedroom, which is Asparagus by Behr. FYI, in my opinion, Behr paint is not as good as Valspar. Sorry Home Depot. Lowe's beats you in the paint dept! We painted our entire house with Valspar when we moved in and it covers much better than Behr...anywhoo! So first I painted over the yellow that was in there. It took 2 coats (and I still have a couple touch-ups to make! The color was good though, as it matched the shower curtain.
Then I tackled the floor! We bought peel and stick vinyl tiles by Armstrong. We chose the Terraza Fieldstone 12 x 12 tiles which had some greys and browns in them. We had yucky yellowed sheet vinyl on the floor which we have always wanted to replace. Eventually we would like real tile, but when we spend the $$$ on that, we want to replace the vanity and mirror also. Not ready to do all that just yet. So we tried to peel up the existing vinyl which didn't go so well. It peeled up like wallpaper, the top vinyl layer peeling off, leaving paper stuff behind. So I decided to just tile right over the old flooring. It turned out well (don't tell anyone I got frustrated with the curves around the toilet and still have a few little pieces to finish!...shh!).
After that I added my accessories. The curtain of course, a pot and artificial plant from IKEA. A brown rug from Target, teal and brown hand towels and a soap pump & toothbrush holder in teal from Target (my fav place!). Then I painted two 8 x 10 canvases to match the shower curtain, and I bought a step stool for $15 from IKEA and painted it white and then painted owls and such to match as well. I found 2 wooden craft frames in the closet and painted them white with Dr. Seuss quotes as follows: "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you!" and "Think left and think right, and think low and think high. Oh the things you can think of if you really try!" I had the hardest time finding a pre-made brown valance, so I decided to go to Jo Anns and get a yard of fabric and a piece of ribbon and make my own. I used my Aunt's sewing machine and though I haven't sewed since I was like 8, it turned out ok. I think I could be good at sewing if I had a little practice.
Last but not least, I hung an owl wall hanging that Aunt Steph got Caden for Christmas, and changed the drawer and door handles from plastic white ones to silver ones. Here is the rundown of what it cost me to do all this and the PICTURES!!!
