My husband is 30!

This past weekend we celebrated J's 30th birthday! It was especially fun because my family was able to come for the weekend! After work on Friday, my dear friend Heather helped me decorate the birthday cake at her house. I baked a 1/2 sheet cake and then used a dome cake for the basketball. The original plan was for the backboard of the cake to be vanilla, and the ball to be chocolate, however the cake mix I used for the ball (Duncan Hines - Dark Chocolate Fudge) didn't set up correctly, so I had to redo the ball (at 10:45 PM! mind you!) in vanilla. Oh well!

So anyways! I went to Heather's house after school and she helped me! We cut half a circle out of the sheet cake and fit in the dome cake. Then we frosted the backboard using white frosting, and the basketball using orange frosting. Then I piped the basketball lines using black frosting. The edges of the backboard were made with rolled fondant, as were the letters. Heather has a cake Cricut which we used to cut the letters! AWESOME! The net for the basketball was piped with white decorator's frosting and the rim of the hoop was red fondant.

Here is a picture of the cake! (Don't mind the extra white, non-matching frosting...I tried to patch where the frosting had settled into the space between the ball and the backboard and the frosting didn't match...though I swear I bought the same brand)

So we had the party at Gametime, which is basically an adult chuck-e-cheese! We had pizza, appetizer platters and chips and salsa and then everyone got to play! Can I just say that the race car ride was AWESOME! Anyways, after the party everyone came back to our house for cake, ice cream & gifts! Here are some pictures from Gametime & cake and ice cream at our house!
