Also I decided to do some baking! I am always looking for an excuse to bake and give away, because I am a very healthy eater, and cookies and sweets don't normally fall into my diet! So Valentine's day is a perfect excuse right? So I decided to make sugar cookies with royal icing and cakeballs.
I found a great blog from "I am baker" and used the blogger, Amanda's, famous sugar cookie recipe & royal icing. This was my first attempt at royal icing, and though they weren't perfect, they turned out ok and I learned a lot in the process. Here are my results:
If you don't know what Cakeballs are, check out Bakerella.com for AMAZINGLY CUTE ideas. Cakeballs are just a cake (I used a strawberry mix so they'd be pink inside) all crumbled up and mixed with pre-made frosting. It says to use a whole can, but I disagree! Half the can was PLENTY! So ya just roll the cake/frosting mixture into balls, and chill. Then you dip them in chocolate, white chocolate or candy coating. I just chose semi-sweet Ghirardelli and melted it over a double broiler. Then while the chocolate was still wet, I sprinkled them with Valentine sprinkles. Here's what they look like:
Then I just bought some cute heart shaped containers from the dollar tree and ta-da!!!!
