Today we are in Interlaken! Interlaken is a town between 2 lakes (hence the name), Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. It is a beautiful!
We got up this morning and went to the main grocery chain called Migros. It was a very interesting experience! We were hoping to find a cooler but there was no such a thing! Did I mention they don't really do ice here? All the drinks we have ordered have been cold but with no ice! So we opted for some non-refrigerated meats and bread for sandwiches, fruit, chips and some breakfast. I had a really interesting yogurt/oatmeal/fruit called Meusli. I really liked it!
We drove about an hour and a half (with some stops for pictures) to Interlaken. When we got here checked into our hotel and then we went and had our lunch out by a huge park in the middle of the city, where people were landing from paragliding off of the surrounding mountains! After eating, we walked around the city! It is a beautiful town, with many very traditional Swiss looking hotels, beautiful gardens and of course incredible views of the
Jungfrau, one of the main mountains in the Alps!
After a bit of touring, we decided to drive to a nearby town, Grindelwald, where we will be (hopefully, depending on the weather) taking a zip-line down the mountain on Tuesday! After checking out the area, we went back to Interlaken to do some more sightseeing before our dinner reservations.
We ate at the Mexican restaurant that is a part of our hotel. I know it sounds weird, to eat Mexican food in Switzerland, but it was delicious, and very authentic. In fact as I am writing this with the windows of our room open, I am listening to the men who have been at the bar for over 2 hours singing and playing the guitar! I just hope that they quiet it down before we go to bed, because the hotels here have no AC and we hope to be able to leave the windows open while we sleep!
Our hotel is very cute, despite the lack of AC, and it has awesome views of the mountains. Hotels are different here in Switzerland, especially if you are on a budget. Most rooms that are of a decent price (Around 100 swiss francs or $110 US dollars) have shared bathrooms. So basically we have a sink in our room and then there are separate showers and toilets in the hallway! Interesting huh?
So that's been our day! Here are some pictures!
